Torremolinos is today an authentic paradise for sports lovers. In addition to the natural conditions that abound for nautical activities, Torremolinos has increased its endowment these last years with modern installations that allow the municipality to provide an incomparable sports offer, not available in any other touristic destination, making it a preferred spot for team work-outs for prestigious competitions of the sports elite.

Municipal Multisports Stadium "Ciudad de Torremolinos"

Enclosed by the natural boundaries of two pine woods that integrate into the landscape an alternate offer of practising sport, the athletics track, with the following features, forms part of the Sports Village of Torremolinos.

• 8 lanes, plus a perimeter lane of artifical turf.
• Natural grass inside area for use as a regulation size football pitch.
• Track surface of medium-hard Mondo Sportrack, designed to prevent injury and ideal for training.
• Regulation safety nets for discus/hammer throwing, to R.F.E.A. (the Spanish Athletic Federation) specifications.
• Two parallel runs for pole vaulting in the high jump area (next to the start of the 400 metre dash)
• Orientation - Northeast to Southwest.
• Maximum quality equipment (mostly UCS).
  

With all these features and considering the exceptional climate throughout the year, it is a perfect setting for optimum training sessions for specific competitions.

Torremolinos has inaugurated new outdoor courts. Four paddleball, 4 tennis and 2 multi-use in this multisports centre. The new tennis installations, are regulation courts (18 x 36 metres) built witch porous "quick". There is a centre court with tier seating of up to 300 hundred spectators. The paddle courts are enclosed in 12mm. Sheet glass. The characteristics of the playing area made of artificial grass (15mm and 2.350 gr./m2) make these unique in our community. The 2 multi-use courts are a perfect complement to the Multi-Sports Stadium "Ciudad de Torremolinos".

Municipal Heated Indoor Swimming Pool 'Virgen del Carmen'

The Olimpic - size indoor heated swimming pool of Torremolinos features the latest advances in sports architecture, although the wooden roof beams lend a traditional touch, giving a more attractive appearance to the enclosure. The immense windows with a southern exposure provide brightness and radiant sunlight, which fortunately can be enjoyed all year round in southern Spain. Great care has been taken, down to the last detail, to make sure that the water is kept in optimum conditions using an ultra-modern chemical treatment system.

The pool irself is 50 metres long and 21 metres wide with a depth of 2 metres and tiered seating for 800 persons, making it one of its kind in this category on the Costa del Sol and one of the best in Spain. It is suitable for holding all types of top level swimming championships, water polo and synchronised swimming and of course, for practise and training sessions for competition swimmers.

This is, no doubt an ideal pool for swimming enthusiasts of all categories to engage in their favourite water sports at any time, regardless of the season.

Sports Palace San Miguel

The "Palacio San Miguel" inaugurated February 1, 1997, is situated within Torremolinos' new Sports Village, easily accessed it has ample parking space. This totally modern structure, has aside from a spacious service area, a gymnasium of approximately 300 m2 with state-of the-art weight -lifting equipment and apparatus for all types of work-outs. From low-level physique improvement to all-out training for sports' elite.

The flooring on the main hall is of Mondo-flex over a layer of Tara-flex as used at the los Angeles' Olympic Games. With a surface area of 51x30 metres, its basketball, handball, volleyball and indoor football courts comply with international standards.

Special curtains can be lowered from the ceiling to divide the hall into three independent game areas.

The spectators' gallery on the second floor can be reached both from the outside and from the centre game area. At present there is tiered seating for 1.000 people around the sides and at the north end, and there are plans underway to double this capacity. There is also a VIP gallery with seating for eighty people and two Press cabins, one at each side of the north end seating.

Game equipment includes regulation goalnets, three sets of foldaway ball nets suspended from the roof, an electronic scoreboard at the south end, visible from any part of the central hall, and a central loudspeaker system.

In the service zone there are 4 washrooms (2 male and 2 female) and nine independent changing rooms, 4 larger ones for team use with individual showers and 5 individual ones for referees, as well as 120 clothes lockers infirmary, and facilities for the disabled.
